the latest doctor who minisode has been bothering me
and I couldn’t quite pin down why until now
but I think I’ve got it:
basically, this is about two lesbian women and a neurodivergent man
trying to impress the neurotypical white man with their intelligence and resourcefulness and personal achievements
and only managing to look ridiculous, pathetic, useless, and desperate
which is played entirely for laughs
meanwhile the neurotypical white man has ~more important~ things to deal with
(but of course as soon as something really important comes up he’s going to swoop in and save the day because of course none of the others can)
and all of this is even more insulting
because all three of these individuals (and their respective races, in the cases of madame vastra and strax) have previously been shown to be intelligent and resourceful and competent
which means that their new-found bumbling buffoon status has happened purely because it’s supposedly funny
good job moffat
really

#god if inception had been a book we would’ve gotten all the backstory on all of these characters and not just random robert fischer and mal/cobb stuff #why did ariadne become an architect #why did she stay #tell me about the relationship between michael caine’s character and ariadne #tell me all the arthur/eames backstory and the eames/yusuf backstory #why are arthur and eames’ totems both gambling-related #tell me how saito came to power and why he seems to have so much of it #TELL ME EVERYTHING
See, Inception may not have been the mind-blowing and confusing film that people like to make it out to be, but it was still REALLY interesting and I agree 100% with the tags. It would have made a fantastic book and there’s a lot of backstory that I’d love to see explained.
Behind every great man is a great woman. When the puppet breaks, don’t blame the puppeteer.
You have a problem with authority, Mr Holmes. You believe you are special, that somehow the rules do not apply to you. Obviously, you are mistaken.
