except that joan watson is a terrible character

are you being sarcastic i’m sorry i can’t tell

Uh, no, I’m not. I’ve read the script for the pilot, and even aside from that, as you can see in the summary in the original casting announcement on Deadline, Joan Watson has never been a soldier, she is no longer a doctor because she fucked up and lost her license, and she’s been weakened and watered down to the point of being a sober companion, paid to latch onto Sherlock’s side to make sure he doesn’t do drugs.

Believe me, I’m all for female POC main characters. But when said character is utterly pathetic and is clearly going to be forced into the role of lovesick puppy being verbally smacked around by Sherlock (who is, still, a cis white dude)….how is that a good thing?

i’m being completely serious in my enthusiasm when i ask where you’ve read the pilot script. the new one, the one that’s actually going to be filmed, versus the 12 year old one, which has probably been rewritten by now. seriously, what strings did you have to pull.

I live in Los Angeles, I have a handful of friends in the film and TV industry. I won’t go into it more than that, out of respect for their privacy.

1. i’m sorry if i came across as disrespectful in any way to you and your friends

2. definitely not asking for proof. just curious about the script being available. clearly since you’ve read it you’re better qualified to judge the character. i guess the rest of us will just have to wait and see.

Isn’t their description of Joan Watson exactly the one the article said…?

Also… the version of John Watson from Sherlock is very different from the one in canon with the constant thrive for danger and the boredom from inactivity. I don’t see how you can get the entirety of her character from just… a… pilot script.
